Press Release: Publication

March 2013Art book of poems and paintings by the victims of Great East Japan Earthquake  to be published on 11th March, 2013 Written by twin sisters in Rikuzentakata, Iwate prefecture

The ‘Let’s Talk Foundation’ was established to support victims of the tsunami by helping to improve their English communication skills. We believe that in order to rebuild the community and industry of the area, it is important for both domestic and international groups to connect. Since November 2011, volunteers have commuted from Tokyo to Rikuzentakata, one of the most devastated areas, for one-on-one monthly coaching sessions. The foundation has also supported the spreading of individual stories beyond Rikuzentakata.
In their book ‘Works of Poetry and Art, Rikuzentakata: Overcoming the Great East Japan Earthquake, twins Emi and Yumi Yoshida have composed a collection of their poems and pictures. The twins have participated in our monthly English classes for more than a year. We are fortunate to have been able to use their poetry for translation, which provides very personal lesson content. Some paintings in the book were swept away by the tsunami but were remarkably recovered among the debris and returned to the Yoshida twins.

Please take a moment of your time to experience the heartfelt and progressive energy still evident in the work, a full two years after the disaster.
