Run for Let’s Talk “Run from Rikuzentakata to Barcelona” in 2016

Some of the members of Let’s Talk Foundation offer their support to contribute through their hobby which is running. Their donation is used for Let’s Talk Ambassador program and English summer camp for the children in Sanriku.

Runners group had charity runs from 2015 (Run for Let’s Talk Foundation). In addition, they formed virtual community event in January 2016. The group accumulate the distance of their daily running and raise fund via their run the total of 10,000 km which is the approx. distance from Rikuzentatakata to Barcelona. After one year, the group successfully arrived at Barcelona, virtually. The community is run on Facebook group. Oishi-san, one of the leaders of Run for Let’s Talk, called for participants to this virtual events. Runners started joining Facebook community. They post running memos such as distance, comments and photos of the season. It made others feel as if we are travelling together. After we virtually landed Eurasia continent, we started setting mini goal in 100-200 km.

The team runs toward west on Silk Road. On the way, Gobi desert and it was a long run in desert area. We kept on progressing by a small runs of the members every day. The v-tour made us feel as if we are travelling in real – learning geographies, politics, histories of the areas we run fascinates us.

It becomes cooler in autumn which is a best season for runners. Members joined marathons each. Some of them came to Rikuzentakata to run “Support Rikuzentakata Marathon (Japanese site: 陸前高田応援マラソン)” and saw the recent situation of the city after 5 years from the tsunami.

During year-end holiday, the team run quite a lot and arrived to Barcelona in new year. It was a great memorial date to cerebrate goal of this v-tour in the new year! Barcelona is a special city for us as it has been a supporter of the people who were affected by the tsunami. We dispatched people (Ambassador program) and they hold an event named “korekara japon” every year to support those who were affected by the tsunami.

The Run for Let’s Talk community donated approx. 300,000 JPY in accumulation. Thank you!

I share two of the v-tour members comments.

The reason why I am passionate in joining this initiative? Because there is a goal (Barcelona)! We are motivated to move forward to the goal and raise the bar (personal best). I also enjoyed the fact that my v-tour team members like my comments. I came to get acquaintance with the new people when running at the new destination on business trip.   (Hoshino-san)

【Road to Barcelona】I joined the community in the middle as I heard “We are running from Rikuzentakata to Barcelona” If it was just “10000km”, I would not have this much interest.

Although it is a virtual tour “From Rikuzentakata to Barcelona”, I felt like we were delivering our hearts as we moved forward. It was an amazing feeling. I was so happy when we made the goal.

We started to return back from Barcelona virtually. I will be back to Rikuzentakata after charging energy in Barcelona virtually. (Shibuya-san)
