December 2018

This is the recap of the December 2018 Komos English Class@Sanriku

  • Participants: Total 35 (4 multiple participants and 2 new members)
  • Volunteer coaches: Total 11 (7 full participation and 4 partial)

This was our last English class in 2018.

While we maintain the one-on-one coaching session from Friday to Sunday, we have also received some applicants for the online-coaching session which has just carried out last month. We appreciate your participation that supplement the monthly held English session. It is going well.

This month, we have started a visit-type program to a nursing home. 5 volunteer coaches made the first visit to “Eastern Day Service Center” in Otomo-cho, Rikuzentakata on this Saturday. There were 18 participants, and they practiced to sing the English version of “Furusato” together. It requires a different approach from the regular English sessions, but we would love to get involved in this and seek more improvement.

Thankfully some of our regular English sessions were full. We really appreciate your participation on your busy schedule at the close of a year. Everyone seemed to enjoy learning English for their own needs. While some reviewed what they studied in schools, others worked on a particular theme such as English for food and cooking, English for teaching Sado (Japanese tea ceremony) or Japanese traditional manners, and English songs.

There have been many ups and downs in 2018, but we felt graceful to have the English session which has formed and continued to strengthen connections with people. We, the volunteer coaching team, are greatly pleased with the opportunity like this, and we wish that local people find it valuable too from the bottom of our hearts. In gratitude for all connections and happiness, we will bring down curtain on activities in 2018.

Thank you very much. See you next year!
