October 2018

Here is the recap of the October 2018 Komo’s English@Sanriku.
  • Total participants : 25 (including 1 new participant)
  • Volunteer coaches : Total of 9 coaches including 2 new coaches (6 full participation and 3 partial participation)
  • We also welcomed 4 visitors and Let’s Talk Foundation guests

Students’ preferences in class times and dates changes every six months or so. Recently, the Saturday afternoon slots are the least preferred lesson times. Along with the area’s recovery and renewal, people have started to take interest in many other activities during weekends. The trend makes us think that “normal” and “ordinary” is returning to people’s lives. Komo’s English does not aim to lure students from local ‘after school English tutoring school’ just to increase the number of participants. Our wish is to maintain the quality of our classes even when we have less participants. At the same time, schools need to periodically review the programs they offer. We feel it may be a good time to revisit our own programs and introduce some changes where necessary. After all, it has been 7 years since the start of our classes.

As always, student’s achievement showed as a result of their conscientious efforts. We also met new students and volunteer coaches.

Ms.K began reading the book, “The Extraordinary Voyage of Kamome’ (Japanese title is “Let’s be friends forever’) in December 2016, she has been diligent and never gave up and finally completed it. Her determination and attitude is commendable.

Ms. KS read a letter from her friend overseas. With help of volunteer coaches, she worked on the reply. It was the first time for the coaches to be part of the class as well as to be in the Sanriku area. We are certain the time spent together was very meaningful.

Other participants each have their own theme of study that they bring to the class. Each volunteer coach support in the “One-on-one” format. We hope through our common theme of English, people will be forward looking in their lives.

We will keep our presence here as we are resolved to be in the area for 10 years.

See you next month!
