October 2019

We held our regular Komo’s English@Sanriku in October, 2019.

  • Participants : 20 (and participants from daycare center)
  • Volunteer coaches : 7

The number of participants was 20, declinig from 40+ in the past. This trend indicates that the residents have started a new life and spend his/her weekends in various ways after 8 years from the tsunami. Our north star is to help residents rebuild his/her life and the whole area as a result. We will continue our work through our direct interaction with each individual based on his/her unique interests and challenges and remain as a complementary to the local English learning industry and its growth.

While continuing our foundational work of monthly English coaching sessions, we explore our unique ways to create activities to ignite the cross cultural communication, such as cross generation learning using “singing a song in English” with seniors at daycare center, cross domain and language community of “English and liquor expertise”. The fact that these spin-off events attract more participants than monthly Komo’s English sessions reminds us our unique and needed contribution to the city is/ will be through brining diversified perspectives and new styles, fostering community by working closely with the locals and their changes over time. Along the 8-hours-of commute, we had brainstorming discussion and will form some of the ideas into action.

Our annual year-end party will be held at “Tsunakan ryokan” in Kesennuma between 30 November and 1 December. Please  find the detail is in brochure and facebook community page.

Thank you and see you next month!
